I hooked this up to my Samsung 40-inch television. Since this TV doesn’t have a HDMI (ARC) connection, I had to buy an “optical digital audio cable” which cost about $9.00 through Amazon. I’ve never used this type of cable before and I was lucky to read a review that said you had to remove the clear plastic protectors that surround the little bulb at each end of the cable before inserting the cable.
Overall, the setup was easy. At first I had mixed feelings about the sound quality. It was definitely better than the original speakers but I didn’t notice that much improvement over the $59 dollar computer subwoofer and speakers I had attached through the headphone jack (don’t laugh, this setup works pretty well!). However, that all changed when my son played the trailer for “Battlefield 3″ and the whole livingroom rocked. Currently we only have the speakers hooked up to the TV. We haven’t tried hooking up a music system to it–but that looks like an easy task as well. I’ll need a different cable for that. Bottomline: These are good speakers. I’m sure my neighbors will agree! |

Okay – 1st review of this. I bought it without reading any reviews, just knowing it was their latest and greatest. Not disappointed. Just purchased an LG 47LV5400 (excellent value as well) and wanted something more than factory sound, without the complication and ire of my wife that comes with a complete A/V system. Bottom line is this is a wonderful ‘add’ that takes a gorgeous TV like LG’s and brings it to life. Make the factory speakers seem defective. If you are just looking to add some excellent sound to a TV – this is it. I have it set up in a 12×12 room and the sub rocks. I mean in ways that I never expected a wireless sub to perform. I do have a full blown A/V set-up in another room, and I’m not suggesting this in any way performs like a powered 15″ Paradigm – but – for what it is, very impressed. It’s worth noting that most newer TV’s (including my new LG) that have an optical audio out, it is not a VARIABLE optical out. (Regardless of what the brain-dead guy at LG tech-support states, wasting 2 hours of my time having to remount and rewire the TV using analog – not happy) Meaning your stuck using Vizio’s remote for the volume, not your TVs. That sucks. I want to use one remote. The only variable output on my TV is the analog headphone jack. So I have an 1/8″ to 1/8″ cable using the analog headphone out on the TV to the analog input on the Vizio unit. I set the volume close to full on the Vizio sound bar, then use the TV remote to control the volume. The speakers on the TV automatically shut off when I plug into the headphone jack – all is good.
There are a few settings that can be made on the soundbar. Personal preference I guess. Regardless, all of them sound worlds above the tinny factory TV speakers. I am thoroughly impressed by the sound of this set-up, which really was my main priority. I stopped by the local big box store to check out other options (Polk, Sony, Panasonic, LG), and was not that impressed – though it is always tough to judge inside a store that sounds like a casino. Initially disappointed w/Vizio’s tech support staff. I called wanting specific info on the HDMI ARC set-up options and was placed on hold for 15 minute (15 MINUTES) while he researched the info. Maybe I got the latest trainee, but it wasted my time. I did receive a callback from Vizio as a follow-up. They apologized for the wait, and wanted to make sure all my questions were answered. Redeemed, all is well. Highly recommend this product. Exceeded my expectations. AND, it looks sexy. Doesn’t stick out so far like the other Vizio sound bars. Man tested, Wife approved. |

| I won this sound bar through a facebook drawing. I already have a very nice Yamaha surround system in my house, so I thought I should give this sound bar to my parents who’s TV has very poor sound. I was impressed with how well the sound bar filled the room with quality sound. This is probably the easiest componet I have ever connected to a TV. 2 weeks ago purchased this from Best Buy at same price as amazon. It is BETTER THAN EXPECTED.The digital media interface is all the difference- using internet radio, my music collection, and Pandora. I added a WD Livebook Netwrk drive to house all my digital media, and all connect through the house wireless/ethernet netwrk. Setting the network settings got a little complicated when we added the IR/Rf remote and a IPOD touch to do remote control anywhere in the house, but all smooth now. I connect it to a second amp on the zone 3 preamp outs and have a total of 6 listening zones. They can’t all be on different sources, but I can have 3 different sources going at once, and all have separate volume control through inline controllers on 3 of the zones. Sound is great on movies, and on music- my main concern. interface is easy to use after a couple days, and the digital /internet based stuff is as good as your internet connection, i.e. the reciever doesn’t have its own complexity or failures- it works flawlessly. I replaced a previous denon w same power output and zone handling, it didnt have the netwrking. What a major upgrade in convenience and access. Pretty easy to access the features, but leave a few hours for setup. If you are running a whole house, multizone system, this is a great choice if you access internet based or digital stored media a lot…I AM A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER. |

| I’ve had the previous generation 609 for several months, but had the need for a second receiver and wanted one I was already familiar with. Quite simply, I’m amazed at the sound quality of the 809. All music and movies sound much, much better – and the 609 is no slouch. The sound is richer, fuller and more balanced for all audio files – hi def files on my server, but also streaming music at low bit rates. Surround sound decoding and balance for movies is much improved and really adds to the “you are there” experience. The 809 helped me greatly with one of my major problems – subwoofers that don’t have a lot of bark when Bruce Willis blows away the bad guys. Subs now sound much deeper and finally shake the floor and the only difference in my system is the 809. Onkyo has obviously put a lot of work into improving the audio processing technologies. GUIs are better – especially for the net function/button. I literally couldn’t pull myself away from the 809 for hours after I set it up – I had to see how much better everything sounded. Couldn’t be happier and consider the purchase worth every penny. | |

| I replaced multiple components in the bedroom with the BDV-E570. Just a few weeks later, I purchased the BDV-HZ970W and replaced even more components in the living room. Technology advances have made Home Theater Systems in a Box to be viable solutions as compared to days when I had to purches 4 or 5 components to have this type of performance. The wireless connectivity and access to various services like Netflix and Pandora make it even better. My only negative is the system is single task and it would be nice to be able to have input from one featur e while accessing another. For example, play music on Pandora while browsing your Netflix queue. | |
