Mitsubishi WD-73638 73-Inch 3D-Ready DLP HDTV Review
If you buy the Panasonic DMP-BDT100 3D/2D Blu-Ray DVD Player, the Optoma BG-ZD101 DLP Link 3D Glasses with 3 Interchangeable Nose Pieces (Red) their is no need for the Mitsubishi converter kit. the Panasonic DMP-BDT100 does 3D checkerboard format right out of the box and the Optoma BG-ZD101 DLP Link 3D Glasses do not need an emitter to work. TV works great and the 3D is excellent. FYI you can use the PS3 if you use the Mitsubishi converter kit. However it is a cheaper option to buy the Panasonic DMP-BDT100 and the Optoma BG-ZD101 DLP Link 3D Glasses.

Mitsubishi WD-82738 82-Inch 3D DLP HDTV Review
I sometimes have to pick my friends and family up off of the floor when they first see this TV. The enormous size makes their jaws drop and the picture quality makes them not want to leave. My wife was ready to kick me out when she saw the size of the TV box; however, it seems she has changed her mind because she always wants to watch movies on this TV and invites our family, friends, and neighbors over to see it. This is an amazing HD TV that is 3D ready. The picture and color even on non HD channels are extremely good. Did I mention that this TV is 82″ and currently 65″ is the biggest you can get in 3D from a plasma/LCD TV? If you are looking for a quality TV that will make you feel like you are at sporting events and make your family think they are in a movie theater, then start popping popcorn and get this TV. It is by far the best TV I have ever owned. I am truly enjoying this TV and highly recommend it.

Mitsubishi WD-65638 65-Inch 1080p 3D-Ready DLP HDTV Review
I hope to update this review later with more details. This is the first impression after using the WD-65638 for 36 hours. It was received yesterday morning and has been in nearly continuous use by all family members. We are using this with a Panasonic wi-fi enabled blue ray player which was purchased at the same time. The first item to view was a Blue Ray disc by BBC (Yellowstone). The vivid picture and colors are as good as I could ever imagine – perfect. This is written knowing I am not experienced in this kind of evaluation but it was breath-taking for everyone in the family. With the large screen, perfect colors and clarity plus good built in sound it had a little bit of the feeling you get from I-Max theaters. Watching Netflix streaming movies has been flawless (not high definition) but this is mostly a function of the Blue Ray player.

The set is attractive physically and is quite light. It is much lighter than it appears so 2 men picking it up makes it feel almost too light. Obviously it is deeper than a plasma or LCD TV but it is hard to imagine that would matter. It is light enough to be fine on about any stand that is wide enough for it (forty-nine bucks at IKEA works great). Mounting on the wall is not practical for a 65″ TV of any kind plus what do you do with the cables and other devices? I doubt anyone moves a set this big around the house from week to week and, even if you did, this TV would not be much harder than moving an LCD or Plasma (I would say not harder, at all). Passing on DLP in favor of plasma/LCD seems to not make sense in this size range (55″ plus). The price is around half the price of a smaller plasma/LCD and is MUCH cheaper than a 65″ LCD/Plasma plus the picture quality is arguably better (opinion of various tech sites I read – I have not tried to personally evaluate that).

Controls: Not much to say about this, yet. It all works fine but we have been controlling the TV mostly via the Panasonic Blue Ray player which is also working fine.

I have heard about problems with the bulbs going out and needing an expensive replacement. Checking right now it looks like the bulbs are a little over one hundred dollars. That is not near as bad as a few years ago. My parents LCD TV had the light source go out and they had no viable option – 4 years old and out to the road for pickup and that was a very highly rated Samsung model. Hopefully the prices keep going down so if I need one in 2 to 4 years I won’t mind too much paying 50 to 100 to keep the set alive.

Mitsubishi WD-60638 60-Inch 3D-Ready DLP HDTV Review
In its price range, the size and the quality of the picture seems to be far better than average. It works well with indirect or shaded daylight falling on its screen. You’ll probably want to back off the as-received brightness and contrast settings to get something a little bit more natural.

This is a simplified box with simplified inputs, outputs and controls.

Unlike a LCD it is about 16 inches thick and has a projector bulb that you may have to replace during its useful life. It takes a good part of a minute to warm up. It also lacks the complex selective contrast-enhancing features of newer LED LCD TVs. On balance, the basic static contrast is plenty high for all but video perfectionists.

It has no analog outputs so that if you want to add an external audio system, that audio system must have a digital (SP/DIF coax) input (stereo), or some kind of time delay to avoid problems with lip synch.

The market for this TV is either someone who wants a basic TV with great picture and OK sound, or someone who is willing to provide the technical resources required to incorporate it into a more sophisticated A/V system with a multichannel receiver, etc. The middle ground where you just plug an analog stereo receiver or some powered speakers into it just isn’t there.

Also lacking are networking and internet support. If you want to watch downloaded videos, you’ll need to add a PC to your AV system. The PC-oriented video inputs are HDMI so there’s no place to plug in the traditional 15 pin analog CRT connector. Of course doing so would be a waste of a great monitor. A PC with a HDMI or DVI output (with simple adaptor to match the TV’s the HDMI inputs) can work well.
