I bought this to replace the stock cassette radio that came with my 2000 Ford F-150. I knew that a double din unit was oversized for my app, but I did some cutting inside dash with dremmel and mini hack saw and got it to fit. Soldered new connector(amazon also) wires to hu leads and plugged into truck harness and fired it up. As others have reviewed, the graphics are lame (no screensaver option) but the functionality of unit is good. I use the bluetooth for hands-free cellphone and I’m very happy with it. Music sounds better than stock unit to me. For me, it has plenty of power with EQ pre-sets of classic, pop, rock or off, plus loudness and dbs boost buttons (which I use). I’m able to taylor EQ of various music genres to my liking. Touch screen works well but I find myself using volume buttons to control unit rather than with touchscreen. Need to switch screen menu to make EQ adjustments. I’ve added a Pyle back-up camera at install which I recommend for those that trailer stuff. CD player and SD reader work good (again graphics kinda lame). I have not watched any videos yet. |

I bought this when it was $60 on another web site, but had to review it here, as well. I let this baby sit for 4 months after I bought it. Then I bought a New Quad Core, 64-bit, 8 GB HP Multimedia PC so I could record old movies. I purchased a 2 TB external portable drive and began copying the movies to it. Then, while cleaning out my techie toy closet, I found this, unopened. I put it together, which only took 2 minutes, plugged my portable drive into and changed my TV to Video and bingo! It saw all my movies. However, be warned. It will NOT play FLV (flash and/or YouTube)movies, so you may have to convert those to MPG or AVI or DIVX with any of the free converters out there. I use “WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe” and a few others, but there are so many good ones out there that are simply free. Do a search on FreeWareFiles.com.
The quality is excellent and there doesn’t seem pausing or glitches, such as lags, etc, as the movie plays. I have now been using it for 2 months now and have it hooked into a switchbox, so I can just jump to it. This is one great device, so if you are considering getting this, do it. It really is a great device to have if you have any kind of multimedia, such as videos, photos, etc. you want to display on your TV. When the WD device comes up, it automatically shows a menu with icons: Digital Camera (video and jpg), browse to a directory, etc. I don’t use anything but the Browse feature as I have all my movies categorized: Comedy, Drama, History, Sci-Fi, Western, and War. Now, I wished I had bought two, just in case! Or, give one to one of my sons. I cannot say enough good things about this. |

I purchased one as soon as it was released. It performs numerous rather sophisticated functions, but so far I only use it to watch 1080p MKV titles stored on external USB drives, connected to my 1080 LCD TV via HDMI of course. It also performs the quite useful function of being able to navigate menus of standard DVDs copied to a hard drive. It is particularly nice for me that it supports Mac OS formatted drives. The remote is pretty basic, but gets the job done; unfortunately you can’t read it in the dark, it doesn’t glow or anything.
The only annoyance that I’ve encountered so far is that it occasionally resets the video output to 720p, and I have to notice this and reconfigure it; this may be some HDMI handshake issue with my TV however and not the fault of the box. One thing that makes me nervous is that its internal (and external bus-powered USB) drives seem to be warm and running all the time, even when its powered “off” from the remote. I think this may be because it can act as a network Share. I’ve performed one firmware update (via USB thumb drive) which went smoothly, and I’m about to do another one. I have the impression that they’re continually ironing out glitches and making improvements. |

I bought this device to hopefully stream audio and video from my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro to my TV. The mid-2010 MacBook Pro outputs audio from its MiniDVI port. To use HDMI, you must buy a special miniDVI to HDMI adapter(mine is made by Griffin) that includes the audio signal. I was hesitant to buy this product not knowing if it’d work with the new MacBook Pros to transmit the audio wirelessly as well because of the adapter I must use. My concerns were completely unfounded.
Not only does it output audio as well as crystal-clear video, but it also only uses one USB port on the MacBook pro to power it rather than the two specified in the instructions. I think this has something to do with Apple putting higher-power USB ports on their products(it also includes an AC adapter). The cables the device comes with are the perfect length for my purposes. All in all, this product works flawlessly for what I bought it for: Running a media center app on my laptop and viewing my video library (plenty of 1080p content) on my TV without using an HDMI cable. This device handles it perfectly. In the week I’ve spent using this product, I only have one complaint: The power plug comes out of the receiver piece way too easily. This isn’t a huge deal for me because I don’t anticipate moving the receiver very much. Great product! | I have had TiVo TCD746320 Premiere DVR for about 6 years now and cannot live without. I bought the Premiere to use in the Family Room with the older Series 3 in the home theater room. At half the price of the S3, the Premiere is noticeably faster. I consider it great deal compared to the alternatives ($20/month Comcast HDDVR junk, etc). It is public knowledge that the Premiere is still being improved and upgraded. It had dual CPUs but only one is used until all bugs are worked out. But, even in its present form it is great. The picture quality is outstanding. Transfers from the S3 are 30-40mbps (much faster than you can watch HD), so it essentially streams between TiVos. TiVo provides a great way to find and add shows over the internet and via my cell phones. Even if the Premiere is not further improved, I am very satisfied. | |

| I have been looking for an alternative to cable/satellite for awhile. The ROKU XDS is the closest thing to it. With the support of Netflix streaming(some episodes even in HD), and with Hulu plus coming in the fall, the ROKU XDS is all my family needs. Also, if you look at the ROKU forums, developers are creating other private and premium channels. This is something that Apple.tv cannot do. They also mention on their website that with an update in November you will be able to play video off USB. Setup took only minutes and the picture in awesome on my 1080P LCD. The only draw back would be if you watch a lot of sports, currently they only have MLB.tv. As soon as Hulu Plus is added I will be dropping my $90/month satellite bill and pay $20 a month for Hulu and Netflix. | |

While I think the price point should have been closer to $200, I am overall very satisfied with Google TV, using the Logitech Revue box and keyboard. I am an Android phone user as well and the OS used in Google TV is very similar. The set up was easy and intuitive. One note: You do need an HDTV, high-speed internet (wired or wireless), and a cable box with HDMI cable inputs to take full advantage of all Google TV has to offer. And while the box comes with 1 HDMI cable, you will need at least one more. I am not completely sold on using the keyboard to control the DVR, although it is possible. There is a free Harmony app for Android phones (iPhone coming soon, I believe) that is an added bonus.
I won’t be getting rid of my laptop, but will be using it a whole lot less! If you use the internet for games, Facebook, searching, shopping, photos, videos, etc., then having quick access to that using the full Google Chrome browser while in your living room, is a no-brainer. I enjoy the integration of my DVR content with internet searching, if I search for “Desperate Housewives” it shows me not only my recordings on the DVR, upcoming shows in the guide, as well as related websites and other references. Neat. I like the Pandora application so I can listen to music through my stereo, surf the web, and watch the local news in picture-in-picture, all at once. I look forward to having more application options (Google is aggressively pursuing developers to create apps for Google TV like they do for the Android Marketplace). I think a very basic app they should have included out of the box is Weather.com to quickly pull up the local forecast. When an app market is available and as other enhancements are added (updates over the internet), this will soon become the perfect product, until then, it’s very fun and I’m glad to have it! |

They’re calling it Apple TV Take 2. In other words, any review before February 12, 2008 is a review of the old model. A huge update-a complete revamp of the system was released as a free upgrade by Apple to make the Apple TV and entirely new device.
You watch the TV shows you want, the movies you want, when you want. We had Tivo and loved it, but Tivo can only record what the networks feed you. With Apple TV, if you want to sit down and watch one of those first episodes from Season 1 of MythBusters, you can search or simply navigate to The Discovery Channel, select MythBusters, Season 1, pick your episode, and begin watching it within a minute or so. All on your big flat-screen TV from the comfort of your couch, using your Apple remote. No computer needs to be turned on. You just need wireless Internet access. You can buy television episodes, movies, or now you can rent movies for about $3. We cancelled our DirecTV when we bought the original Apple TV last year, but this new update makes live television obsolete. I got Apple TV MC572LL/A yesterday. It’s tiny! So tiny that I thought they forgot to put it in the box. It took only a couple of minutes to get it up and running. The user interface is through an Apple remote that is a wonder in it’s simplicity. Navigation is straightforward and is easy to get used to. The controlling software is iTunes and you have to have the latest edition of this program running on your main computer. It’s a fee download from Apple. At the current time Apple hasn’t lined up a lot of content for Apple TV and that’s a bit of a problem. They’ll need to have tons of content, purchased ala carte, to make a serious dent in the the cable and satellite market. I watch most TV on DirecTV. The satellite service is very reliable and the user interface is great. The only problem I have with DirecTV is the high cost, especially when you consider that most people only watch about a dozen of their hundreds of channels. Their “Premium Channels” feature a lot of mindless one and two star movies, but an occasional great series like Rome or Boardwalk Empire. I think that it would be far cheaper to simply watch the good stuff over the Internet if that can be worked out with the main producers. Currently the producers seem more worried about selling their precious content for too little than making big bucks with a mass audience. Apple TV MC572LL/A is one of many ways of getting media content on a TV. It remains to be seen if it ends up dominating the market, but it’s a possibility. The trick will be convincing the suits at the studios to take a chance on the mass market. I’m guessing that over the next year Apple will bring in others to the fold and this little $99 gadget will be a great investment. |
